Executive Director at the Mint Directors Association

Originating out of the Mint Directors Conference, the Mint Directors Association (MDA) is a newly created Not for Profit Incorporated Association representing Sovereign Mints from across the globe.

There are currently 19 member Mints with strong prospects that this number will grow. The Association’s membership is currently limited to government-owned Mints that have a strong common interest in the promotion of the minting industry and its various programs, in sharing best practice, becoming a highly sustainable industry, and operating to the highest possible ethical standards. It is also open to privately-owned Mints with official missions received by their respective Governments.

The objects of the MDA are detailed in the Articles of Association and comprise:

  • To promote the Minting industry and share information that will help address challenges and foster opportunities for circulating coins, collectible coins and bullions.
  • To provide a forum that encourages innovation and presents best practices be they technical, marketing or experiences.
  • While operating within the public interest imperative adopted by the MDA, help the Association and its members to promote coins at relevant forums worldwide as secure, efficient, and part of the inclusive means of payment.
  • To provide administrative and secretarial support to the International Mint Directors Network (as it is currently known) programmes of:
    • the Biennial Mint Directors Conference
    • the International Mint Directors – Technical Committee, and
    • the Coin Registration Office
  • To facilitate a more sustainable minting industry and encourage and promote the highest ethical standards.

The MDA aims to complement and enhance the broader International Mint Directors Network (IMDN), and partner with other relevant associations and organisations where appropriate, like the International Mint Industry Association (IMIA), created in 2022.

Role description

The role of MDA Executive Director (ED) is an important contributor to the success of the organization and has been established to implement the Association’s program of work, in partnership with the MDA Board, and through the Board with the MDA membership.

The key activities of the MDA originate from a bi-annual planning process which is informed by information, needs and insights gained from members.

The ED facilitates the planning process and is required to present ideas, suggestions and recommendations on the future two-year program based on stake holder engagement and research.

Specific responsibilities

  • Monitor the broader environment and share information with members that will help address industry challenges
  • Facilitate and organize forums for members that encourage innovation and present best practices be they technical, marketing or experiences
  • With a public interest lens, help the MDA and its membership to promote coins at relevant forums worldwide as secure, efficient and part of the inclusive means of payment
  • Facilitate a program that encourages a more sustainable minting industry as well as promoting the highest ethical standards for and of MDA members
  • Facilitate and foster collaborative partnerships with relevant and appropriate partners and stakeholders
  • Facilitate the creation of research and projects, ideally in partnership, that produce insights, information and data to help MDA members plan for their future
  • Provide administrative and secretarial support to the broader IMDN programs as described above
  • Keep the membership of MDA regularly informed and engaged about issues that can impact their Mints
  • Deliver the bi-annual MDA work program
  • Manage the resources of the MDA with quarterly reporting against the budget to ensure a sustainable, effective and efficient organisation
  • Evaluate and ensure that operations meet legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.

  • Ideally with knowledge of the minting industry.


Reporting to: The Board through the Chairperson of the Board between meetings.

Hours of work: The contracted position is expected to work the equivalent of two days per week or 100 days per year.

Contracted period and remuneration: The contract will be for three years, renewable annually subject to performance. US$65k per annum plus approved travel-related expenses. Self-employed insurances are required.
